I wanted to be able to watch and listen to the second round of the Republican Presidential Debates as originally planned but instead I will be watching the LA Dodgers play at Dodger Stadium on September 16. Since we have dugout seats and will be having dinner at their restaurant, I have chosen to skip the live performances and watch highlights of the debates on the late night news. Oh, well. Not knowing who will be saying what at this point in time I will reserve all of my comments until next week.
Three years ago, this country and its so called allies in the mid-east, for whatever reasons chose to do nothing regarding the upheaval in Syria which in turn helped to create the vacuum in which ISIS and or ISIL were born and subsequently flourished. What we have now is a never ending no-mans land that has spawned almost three million refuges in the aggregate, who have been trying desperately to gain entry to the rest of the world. The TV news that we see only glosses over the situation. We do not get to see the misery first hand that permeates the plight of these pilgrims in their quest to make their way to those countries that have announced an open door policy and have extended an open hand.
As I sadly predicted, the Iran Nuclear Deal will be going through in spite of all of the objections, which are apparently not enough to overcome a Presidential veto that was threatened by the big O should his plans be thwarted. Like with everything else in life, history will be the final arbiter.
The big question is, what will Israel do? About five years ago I saw a copy of the operations plan for a pre-emptive attack of Iran by Israel that was supposed to take place sometime in early 2009. It was very detailed and outlined the forces and equipment of Iran and Israel at that time. As part of the plan, the US had already dispatched two squadrons of F-22 Raptor Fighter Planes to the Gulf, which were subsequently recalled by the big O shortly after he took office.
Since then there have been many military improvements in the armed forces of both opponents as well as there being a drastic change in position by the US, so much so that the friction between Israel and the big O is undeniable. About three years ago I attended a lecture given by a former member of Mossad in which he stated that if there is a war between Israel and Iran, then Israel will use low yield nuclear weapons against the hardened underground nuclear sites of Iran which will render them radioactive for at least twenty years.
Should Israel opt for a pre-emptive attack, there is a good chance that they will do so with the overt or at least tacit cooperation of the other Arab countries in the mid-east as they too would not be happy to have another nuclear power in their neighborhood, particularly one that has exhibited grandiose desires and will be getting a windfall of some 150 billion of unfrozen assets.
Those countries are Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Iran’s long time foe, Iraq. A detente already exists between Israel and some of the Arab countries wherein permission has been granted for Israel to fly over their air space.
