Veteran’s Day

WHAT THE F@!#%$&* (3rd edition)

Some people have said to me, or emailed me, “enough with the politics”, while others have said to me, or emailed me to the effect that, “commenting on issues regarding entertainment are completely irrelevant”.  Even though last weeks interview of Julie Budd was well received, it IS time for some politics, once again.

VETERANS DAY

When I was a kid, we didn’t have a Veterans Day.  We had Armistice Day, which came about following WWI, that was subsequently changed during President Eisenhower’s tenure to Veterans Day, a good move indeed.

The name should be changed once more, this time, to Politicians Day.  Why?  It should be obvious.  With a major election coming up in less than one year, all or most of the politicians out there seem to be pandering to veterans groups, especially those who prior to this year never gave a damn about our veterans, particularly those who never served.

Veteran’s Hospitals have yet to significantly improve on the waiting time for those in need of services.  I proposed a while back that the VA be terminated with prejudice and that all of the medical services and other benefits that they are supposed to provide be transferred to Medicare and SSI.  Veterans would then have the freedom of choice to go to their own doctor as provided for by Medicare and their disability benefits would come from SSI, two governmental agencies that seem to function.  This arrangement, referred to as a single payer plan by the ‘Beltway’ crowd, will not increase costs and will most likely result in a savings due to the closing of a number of VA facilities that cannot possibly do the job and the dismissal of an army, not of veterans, of the civil service employees, the more expensive ones having been appointed to their positions, who seem to be interested, for the most part, only in receiving a pay check.  Some of our esteemed politicians are now talking about a semi-solution to the insidious problem of the unreasonable waiting periods now required in order to get treatment, wherein a veteran who is dissatisfied with the VA service, will be permitted to go to his or her own doctor instead, and be subsequently reimbursed by the VA, should it still exist, or the Federal Government.

Clearly, something has to be done.

CHAOS ACROSS OUR PLANET

As far back as I can remember there have always been wars, other than WW’s I and II, that have always been going on, some of them so small or in such out of the way places that you would never know about them, unless by chance you just happened to glance at the bottom of page 34 or whatever page of whatever newspaper you happened to be reading.

And there will always be wars, or disputes if you will, some bigger or smaller than others, that will continue to arise due to the insatiable desire of people to seek out or create conflict, or are unable to reconcile their differences of opinion, until the final days of existence of our planet.

These wars, or differences of opinion, on whatever the subject may be, have escalated to the level where dip shit little countries or wannabe countries or most likely groups with gripes, can not only threaten other countries or groups, both near and far, but can wreak havoc with those who dare to disagree with them under the insane premise that their religion is the only religion that their God will permit and that all who do not agree with their tenets shall be put to death.  This is truly insane.  Who am I talking about?  ISIS.

So what can we do about it?  During WWII the United States and its allies faced two very powerful enemies that were on opposite sides of the planet, that were exceedingly more deadly than ISIS as well as being fully industrialized and yet both of these enemies lost the battle in less than four years.

Comparing now with then, if the United States responded back then by sending advisors, conducting limited air strikes or debating the issue to death, the swastika would today be flying over Washington, DC.  You don’t have to be a Monday morning quarterback nor an armchair general to figure it out.  The only way that ISIS can be totally defeated is for the United States and its allies, whoever they are, to field an army of a half million, or more if necessary, to achieve complete obliteration of ISIS by forever eliminating each and avery last one of its adherents.  Nothing short of this will suffice.

THE NEXT FIVE YEARS

The first year of the next five years, from a political point of view, will consist of nothing more than name calling and finger pointing with little or nothing of any substance  being done to help our country.

It’s the next four years after the first of the next five years that have me worried.  Even though our President, who I refer to as the Big O, could never get re-elected for a third term plus the fact that we do have a two term limit for the office of President, but not for Vice President, I would probably end up relocating to Australia should the impossible occur or if the election is won by his heir apparent.  The same is true for a number of my friends.

Let’s face it.  Unless there is some new and highly damaging baggage that is discovered, Hillary Rodham Clinton WILL get the Democratic Party nomination to run for President.  Period.  End of story.  And what will she do if this should happen?  It is my opinion that most or possibly all of the policies and programs of the Big O will continue unabated, including all of the bullshit that has been thrust upon us for the past seven years.  Although I am a registered Republican, I have never voted for the party but rather for the individual.

Therefore, it is also my opinion that if the registered Democrats blindly vote along party lines because they believe or were told that the Democratic Party has always and will forever be the party of the people, they will be doing themselves and our country a great disservice.  While I do have a favorite Republican in mind who I will probably be voting for, it really doesn’t matter who that person is.  All I know is that our country is long overdue for a change.
