I just got through four write-ups on INSANITY, an item of which there is no shortage in our world. This week I’m switching over to another item of which we also have an abundance of, STUPIDITY.
I’m sure that by now you have all heard about the mass shootings that took place in Las Vegas. It started out as a case of INSANITY but it seems to be morphing into one of STUPIDITY. How so?
To begin with I cannot imagine that a first class hotel-casino would not notice that a singular guest, that means one person, brought some ten full suitcases up to his room over the span of a few days. Considering that those suitcases could not have been light because of what was contained therein it should have caught someone’s attention or at least have tweaked their curiosity. Don’t they have security cameras all over the place? And more importantly, did anyone ever bother to look at them? Okay, it’s done and there is no going back and I’m sure that the hotel-casinos have since implemented or are at least considering tighter security procedures going forward.
What about the investigation(s)? From the very get-go there was a swarm of different versions as to what actually occurred, each of them conflicting with one another on key issues and some even flip-flopping back and forth thereby spawning the never ending series of conspiracy theories. Hopefully the agencies conducting the investigations will not end up with a report like the Warren Commission did in the case of JFK. You all remember him, don’t you? To this day the Warren Commission Report still does not satisfy most (intelligent) people – just as it did not when it was first released – by not answering numerous questions that to this day continue to linger.
Getting to the title of this weeks essay, STUPIDITY, there are two very blatant examples that I am aware of and there are probably a lot more out there.
The first is the case of the staff attorney that worked for CBS, and not just any staff attorney but a Vice President and Senior Counsel, who made the following STUPID comments, on Facebook no less, after the tragic event in Las Vegas, saying that she was “not even sympathetic to the victims of the Las Vegas shootings because the country music fans often are Republican gun toters, etc.” Nice. Can you believe the STUPIDITY of making such a STUPID remark? At least CBS did the right thing by terminating her services. I can only guess as to the motive for her STUPID outburst but it would teach her a good lesson if she had to stay on her unemployment benefits until they ran out.
The second instance of STUPIDITY is the case of the Congressman from the 6th District of Massachusetts who refused to participate in a “moment of silence” for the victims of the Las Vegas shootings. This one puzzles me since the individual is a former Marine Corp Officer that served in Iraq. For some unknown reason he is also anti-Israel which does not make sense – unless he is purposely pandering to the supposed latest principles of the Democratic Party. I surely hope that all of his constituents are aware of his STUPIDITY.
And to top it all off there is something that is not necessarily STUPID but certainly the epitome of GREED. In case you haven’t heard, a Las Vegas law firm has filed a class action suit on behalf of those who have been “emotionally affected” by the recent events in Las Vegas. Why a Las Vegas law firm? Why not? That’s where it all happened, right? The amount that the attorneys are seeking from the “bump stock” manufacturers, the device that permits the conversion of a semi-automatic or single shot assault rifle to one that is fully automatic, that the ATF did not object to, has not been revealed. Their claim is that the manufacturer did not take the proper precaution to ensure that the device would not fall into the wrong hands. How is this possible when in this instance the perpetrator had an unblemished record with no apparent aberrations and was a respected and well to do collector? But know this. The only ones who truly benefit from a class action law suit are the attorneys. Whatever the amount of the settlement, the law firm gets one third off the top and the remainder is then shared by the participants of the class action law suit. The math on this is very simple. If for example the attorneys collect ten million, they keep $3,333,333 or thereabouts, leaving $6,666,667 for all if the victims and those who have been “traumatized”. If that number is 20,000, then each of them will receive $166.67. Not a bad deal, for the attorneys, that is.
